KPK evaluates internal systems following Pemalang Regent case exposure
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is evaluating its internal systems after uncovering an alleged extortion case involving the Regent of Pemalang, Anom Widiyantoro, and a police officer seconded to the KPK as an administrative staff member.
“The evaluation being conducted, for instance, ensures that the document process from investigators to the leadership is strictly maintained. Not everyone should be able to access it,” said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto at the KPK Juang Building, Jakarta, on Thursday.
According to Setyo, the evaluation is being implemented to prevent unauthorised parties or unrelated KPK employees from accessing documents related to ongoing corruption investigations handled by the anti-corruption agency.
“If something goes wrong or if there is an irregularity, we can identify it; the leadership can track where the bottleneck occurred, where the leak happened, and who performed the incorrect action,” he stated.
Furthermore, he noted that the evaluation is intended to prevent issues that could negatively impact the morale and mental well-being of other KPK employees, ensuring that such incidents do not recur and affect the agency’s overall performance.
On Tuesday (28/7), the KPK conducted its 18th sting operation (OTT) of 2026. Among the 21 individuals arrested during the operation was Anom Widiyantoro. The KPK subsequently brought 14 of the 21 detainees to Jakarta for further interrogation, comprising five individuals arrested in Jakarta, eight from Pemalang, and one from Purworejo.
On 30 July 2026, Anom Widiyantoro and three others appeared before the public wearing the orange KPK vest after being named suspects.
The case consists of two clusters: the first involves alleged extortion by Anom Widiyantoro against officials within the Pemalang Regency Government and private parties; the second involves alleged extortion by a police officer seconded to the KPK and his father against Anom Widiyantoro. In the first cluster, the suspects are Anom Widiyantoro and Mohamad Haris (alias Gus Haris), while the second cluster names Setya Budi Dias, the police officer seconded to the KPK, and his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto, as suspects.
