KPK Enforcement Deputy Responds to MAKI's Complaint to Oversight Board Over Yaqut's House Arrest
The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) has reported KPK leaders, deputies, and spokespersons to the KPK Oversight Board (Dewas). KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, expressed his gratitude for the report.
“I personally extend my utmost thanks for the report from MAKI to the KPK Dewas regarding the handling of the Hajj quota case,” Asep told reporters on Thursday (26/3/2026).
Asep views the report as a manifestation of MAKI’s concern for eradicating corruption. He stated that MAKI is on the right track by submitting the report to the KPK Dewas.
“For me personally, this report represents public concern, in this case from MAKI, towards our efforts in combating corruption, and most importantly, it was submitted through the correct channel, namely the KPK Dewas,” he said.
MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman had previously reported KPK leaders, deputies, and spokespersons to the KPK Dewas. Boyamin alleged ethical violations related to the change in status of former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest.
“KPK leaders automatically took action and instructed without collective collegiality. One of them and the others as mentioned. Then, the KPK spokesperson for stating that he was healthy and allowing the family to apply,” Boyamin said at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3).
“Then Mr Asep Guntur is one of them because he did not order a health check upon release. It was rushed. The health check was only done just before entering here (KPK Detention Centre),” he added.
Yaqut had been on house arrest since Thursday (19/3). KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the house arrest for Yaqut was granted after KPK received a request from his family.
KPK then approved the request without providing further details on the family’s reasons for the application.
“So indeed, it was due to a request from the family, which we then processed. Not because of illness,” Budi explained on Sunday (22/3).
This decision drew criticism from various parties. KPK subsequently restored Yaqut’s status to detention centre inmate on Tuesday (24/3).
Most recently, Yaqut was examined as a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the additional 2023-2024 Hajj quota distribution today. KPK is delving into the roles of other parties in the case.
