KPK Employee from Police Force Named Suspect for Allegedly Extorting Pemalang Regent

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named a member of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) as a suspect in an alleged extortion case involving the Regent of Pemalang, Anom Widiyantoro. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that the individual was designated a suspect in his capacity as an Administrative Staff member at the KPK. “The individual concerned is an Administrative Staff member at the Corruption Eradication Commission, and indeed, is on secondment from the Police force,” Budi stated at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday. When asked about the possibility of other victims being extorted by the officer, Budi explained that investigators would look into the matter. “This is still in the early stages. So, investigators are currently focused on this specific case. They will certainly investigate whether similar practices were carried out,” he said. Meanwhile, he noted that the KPK is conducting internal introspection following the alleged extortion. “For us internally at the KPK, this also serves as a moment of introspection, and going forward we will focus on taking corrective measures and improvements, both through systemic and individual approaches, so we can implement early mitigation and prevention to ensure such issues do not recur,” he stated.
