KPK Detains Three Suspects in East Java Grant Fund Bribery Case Linked to DPR RI Member
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained three suspects in a bribery case involving grant funds for community groups from the East Java Provincial Government for the 2019–2022 fiscal year. The suspects are alleged to have bribed Anwar Sadad, a current member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), during his previous tenure as Deputy Speaker of the East Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) for the 2019-2024 period.
“The KPK has detained three suspects. These are from the second cluster, from the giver’s side, namely AY and MF, private parties from Pasuruan Regency, and RWR, a private party from Bangkalan Regency,” said KPK Acting Director of Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Taufik explained that Achmad Yahya (AY), M. Fathullah (MF), and Ra Wahid Ruslan (RWR) were detained for allegedly violating Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or letter b or Article 13 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the old Criminal Code. “The three suspects are being detained for the first 20 days, starting from 22 July to 10 August 2026, at the KPK Detention Centre branch of the Red and White House,” he stated.
Meanwhile, he noted that a fourth suspect was supposed to be detained on Wednesday. However, Moch. Mahrus, a private party from Probolinggo Regency who is currently a member of the East Java DPRD for the 2024-2029 period, did not comply with the KPK’s summons. “So, for the one remaining suspect, he was scheduled to appear. However, according to a letter or confirmation, the person concerned was unable to attend the examination due to other activities,” he said. Taufik confirmed that the KPK would detain Moch. Mahrus at the next opportunity. “In the not-too-distant future, we will schedule a summons for the person concerned,” he assured.
Previously, the KPK announced it had named 21 suspects in the development of the East Java grant fund corruption case. This case development relates to a sting operation in December 2022 involving the then Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD for the 2019-2024 period, Sahat Tua Simanjuntak. On 2 October 2025, the KPK revealed the identities of the 21 suspects. However, on 16 December 2025, the KPK halted the investigation for one suspect, the late Speaker of the East Java DPRD for the 2019-2024 period, Kusnadi, who had passed away. The remaining 20 suspects are as follows: Three recipients of bribes in the East Java grant fund case: Anwar Sadad, Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD 2019-2024; Achmad Iskandar, Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD 2019-2024; and Bagus Wahyudiono, Anwar Sadad’s staff member. The 17 alleged bribe givers include: Mahfud, a member of the East Java DPRD 2019-2024; Fauzan Adima, Deputy Speaker of the Sampang DPRD 2019-2024; Jon Junaidi, Deputy Speaker of the Probolinggo DPRD 2019-2024; Ahmad Heriyadi, a private party from Sampang; Ahmad Affandy, a private party from Sampang; Abdul Motollib, a private party from Sampang; Moch. Mahrus, a private party from Probolinggo and current member of the East Java DPRD 2024-2029; A. Royan, a private party from Tulungagung; Wawan Kristiawan, a private party from Tulungagung; Sukar, a former village head from Tulungagung; Ra Wahid Ruslan, a private party from Bangkalan; Mashudi, a private party from Bangkalan; M. Fathullah, a private party from Pasuruan; Achmad Yahya, a private party from Pasuruan; Ahmad Jailani, a private party from Sumenep; Hasanuddin, a private party from Gresik and current member of the East Java DPRD 2024-2029; and Jodi Pradana Putra, a private party from Blitar. As of 21 July 2026, the KPK had only detained four of the 20 suspects in the case: Wawan Kristiawan, Sukar, Hasanuddin, and Jodi Pradana Putra.
