KPK Detains Three New Suspects in East Java Grant Fund Bribery Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially detained three new suspects in a case of alleged bribery related to the management of grant funds for community groups in the East Java Provincial Government for the 2019-2022 fiscal year. The three are suspected of acting as bribe givers to House of Representatives (DPR) member Anwar Sadad when he served as Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD for the 2019-2024 period.
Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, revealed that the three suspects are from the Anwar Sadad cluster. They are Achmad Yahya and M. Fathullah, private parties from Pasuruan Regency, and Ra Wahid Ruslan, a private party from Bangkalan Regency.
“The three suspects have been detained for the first 20 days, starting from 22 July to 10 August 2026 at the KPK Detention Centre Branch of the Red and White Building,” Taufik stated in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/7).
Taufik explained that there were originally four suspects scheduled for detention today. However, one other suspect, Moch. Mahrus, a member of the East Java DPRD for the 2024-2029 period, did not comply with the investigator’s summons, citing other activities. The KPK confirmed it will reschedule the summons for Mahrus in the near future.
The suspected bribe givers are charged with violating Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or letter b, or Article 13 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
This case is an extension of a sting operation in December 2022 that ensnared former Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD, Sahat Tua Simanjuntak. To date, the KPK has named a total of 21 suspects, although one of them, former East Java DPRD Speaker Kusnadi, had his suspect status revoked due to his death.
With this latest detention, a total of seven suspects are now in KPK custody out of the remaining 20 suspects. Previously, investigators had detained Wawan Kristiawan, Sukar, Hasanuddin, and Jodi Pradana Putra.
