The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially detained Marjani (MJN), the ADC or aide to former Riau Governor Abdul Wahid. Marjani was detained after being named a suspect in the extortion case involving Abdul Wahid.

Observations at the scene on Monday (13/4/2026) showed Marjani wearing an orange vest after being examined by investigators as a suspect. He was escorted by officers with his hands handcuffed.

Before entering the detention vehicle, Marjani stated that he was innocent in this case. He claimed that his name had merely been dragged into it.

“There is nothing; my name was just dragged in,” said Marjani when asked what he wanted to convey.

He explained the reason for previously suing the KPK in court after being named a suspect. He reiterated that his name had been dragged into this extortion case.

“Because I felt my name was dragged in,” he said.

Previously, the KPK named a new suspect in the extortion case involving former Riau Governor Abdul Wahid. The naming of Marjani as a suspect was announced by the KPK on 9 March.

“Today, the KPK is summoning parties in their capacity as witnesses for the new suspect, namely Mr MJN, who is the ADC or aide to the Riau Governor,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Monday (9/3).

Budi stated that the addition of this new suspect confirms that the investigation into the case is ongoing. However, details on when the suspect was named, including the articles charged, would be provided later.

“The naming of this new suspect means it confirms that the investigation into the case will continue. We will still look at other new evidence to then examine it more deeply, more broadly,” he said.

“Considering that catch-and-arrest operations often serve as entry points for the KPK to see if similar practices also occur in other sectors in the Riau region,” he added.

The KPK has completed the investigation into Abdul Wahid in the alleged extortion case against his subordinates in the Riau Public Works Service (PUPR) Unit. Abdul Wahid is set to go on trial soon.

“Today, Monday (2/3), the investigation into the alleged criminal corruption act related to extortion in the Riau Provincial Government environment has been declared complete or P21, and handed over to the prosecution stage,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Monday (2/3).

This case originated from a catch-and-arrest operation (OTT) on Riau Governor Abdul Wahid in early November 2025. The case implicating Abdul Wahid relates to alleged demands for fees by Abdul Wahid from his subordinates in the Riau PUPR Service Unit.

The KPK then named three initial suspects in the extortion case within the Riau Provincial Government. The three suspects are:

  1. Riau Governor, Abdul Wahid

  2. Head of PUPR-PKPP Service, Muhammad Arief Setiawan

  3. Governor’s Expert Staff, Dani M Nursalam.

The KPK suspects that Abdul Wahid threatened his subordinates if they did not hand over money known as ‘gang shares’ worth Rp 7 billion. At least, there were three fee payments for the gang shares in June, August, and November 2025.
