KPK Detains Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro for Alleged Corruption

Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro has been officially detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The certainty of his detention was confirmed when he appeared before the public wearing the anti-graft body’s distinctive orange detainee vest at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7/2026).

When met by the media, Anom offered a public apology. However, he firmly denied any involvement in the practice of buying and selling positions within the Pemalang Regency Government, Central Java, which is one of the points of the investigation. ‘There isn’t any,’ Anom said briefly in response to journalists’ questions regarding the alleged trade in positions.

In addition to Anom Widiyantoro, the KPK has also named three other individuals as suspects in the same case. The case originated from a sting operation conducted by the KPK on 29 July 2026. This operation was recorded as the 18th sting operation carried out by the commission throughout 2026. During the operation, the KPK enforcement team secured a total of 21 individuals across three different locations. Of the 21 people caught, 12, including Regent Anom Widiyantoro, were taken to Jakarta for intensive examination. They consisted of five people from Jakarta, six from Pemalang, and one from Purworejo.

In the silent operation, the KPK managed to seize evidence in the form of cash amounting to Rp2 billion. In addition to securing the cash, investigators have also sealed several strategic locations for the purpose of developing the case. The alleged corruption involving the number one official in Pemalang is related to the execution of several development projects as well as the suspected practice of buying and selling positions within the Pemalang Regency Government. Currently, investigators are continuing to trace the flow of funds and the involvement of other parties in the case.
