KPK Detains Marjani, Aide to Inactive Riau Governor, Suspect in Extortion Case

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained Abdul Wahid Marjani, aide to the inactive Governor of Riau, on Monday (13/4/2026). Marjani was detained after being examined as a suspect in the alleged extortion or receipt of gifts or promises case in the Riau Provincial Government for the 2025 fiscal year. “The suspect is detained for the first 20 days from 13 April to 2 May 2026. The detention is carried out at the KPK’s ACLC (C1) Branch State Detention Centre,” said Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, during a press conference at the Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Monday. Based on observations by Kompas.com, Marjani was seen being escorted by the KPK team to the detention vehicle. “Nothing, my name was misused,” said Marjani, as he was led into the KPK detention vehicle. Regarding his lawsuit against the KPK, Marjani stated that the legal action was taken because he felt his name had been misused in the case. “Because my name was misused,” he said. For his actions, Marjani has violated Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12 letter f and/or Article 12 B of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 on Amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code. Previously, the KPK examined Abdul Wahid Marjani, aide to the inactive Governor of Riau, as a suspect related to the alleged extortion or receipt of gifts or promises case in the Riau Provincial Government for the 2025 fiscal year on Monday (13/4/2026). Based on information obtained, Marjani arrived at the Red and White Building, Jakarta, at 08.16 WIB. “Today, Monday (13/4), the KPK has scheduled an examination of the suspect in the alleged extortion/request/receipt of gifts or promises in the Riau Provincial Government for the 2025 fiscal year,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, in a statement on Monday. “This new suspect designation confirms that the investigation of the case will continue,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, at the Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Monday. Budi said that at that time, investigators had already examined witnesses for suspect Marjani.
