KPK Detains Klaten Regent Hamenang
Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo has completed questioning by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after being caught in a sting operation. He was detained immediately afterwards.
Detikcom observed Hamenang leaving the KPK’s Red and White Building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, at 6.31pm on Friday (16 October 2026), after being questioned following the sting operation, which began the previous day. He was wearing the KPK’s distinctive orange detainee’s vest and had his hands handcuffed.
Hamenang was detained alongside two other people: Ahmad Luthfi, head of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) representative office in Central Java, and M Amin Wahyu Utomo, a private-sector figure.
The KPK had earlier named suspects in the sting operation involving Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, but had not specified who they were.
“Last night, the case was discussed and it was decided that the investigation in Klaten would be upgraded to the inquiry stage,” KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo told reporters at the Red and White Building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Friday (16 October).
Budi said those named as suspects were still being questioned. He said their identities would be announced at a press conference later that afternoon.
“We will provide full details at the press conference planned for this afternoon on the parties held responsible and named as suspects in this case,” Budi said.
Hamenang had been at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, since 7.01am that day for questioning. He arrived in a black car accompanied by investigators.
On arrival, Hamenang was seen wearing a black cap, glasses and a white mask covering part of his face.
In the sting operation, the KPK arrested 19 other people in addition to Hamenang, including the head of the BPK’s Central Java representative office. They were arrested at two locations, in Klaten and Jakarta.
The KPK also seized cash, with the total amount so far reaching Rp1.9 billion.
The case that led to Hamenang’s arrest concerns alleged bribery related to projects and the manipulation of BPK audit results.
“The case is suspected to involve payments received by public officials in connection with the procurement of goods and services, licensing, or other receipts from regional government agencies,” Budi said.
