KPK Detains Former MPR Secretary-General Ma'ruf Cahyono

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained former MPR Secretary-General Ma’ruf Cahyono. Ma’ruf was detained after being examined by the KPK as a suspect in an alleged gratuity case. Based on observations at the KPK building on Jalan Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, on Thursday (9/7/2026), Ma’ruf was seen wearing an orange KPK detainee vest. Ma’ruf’s hands were also handcuffed. He was seen being taken to the detention centre in a prison vehicle. “I was asked for a lot of information earlier, so I explained to make everything clear. I have explained many things,” said Ma’ruf. Ma’ruf underwent examination as a suspect in the alleged gratuity case. This was his second examination, following a previous one on Thursday (25/6). For context, the KPK is investigating an alleged gratuity case related to procurement within the MPR. The KPK named Ma’ruf, who served as MPR Secretary-General from 2019 to 2021, as a suspect. The KPK suspects Ma’ruf received Rp 17 billion. The KPK has not yet detailed the construction of the case.
