The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained five suspects after carrying out a sting operation at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

According to CNNIndonesia.com’s observation at the KPK’s Red and White Building, the five suspects were wearing the commission’s distinctive orange prison vests and were handcuffed.

They were taken to the KPK detention centre in a prison van at around 4.50pm local time.

KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said that, following an inquiry, the BNPB case had been escalated to the investigation stage at a case-review meeting.

“Investigators then named a number of parties as suspects,” Budi told reporters.

He did not say who had been named as suspects.

The KPK had earlier arrested a total of 14 people in a sting operation at the BNPB in the Greater Jakarta area on Tuesday (13 October).

“The KPK team secured 14 people, including the Secretary-General, a commitment-making official (PPK) and other parties, including private-sector representatives,” KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said in Yogyakarta on Tuesday evening (13 October).

In addition to detaining several people, the KPK also seized around Rp1.4 billion and precious metals.
