Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained five suspects after intensively questioning people arrested in a sting operation at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Tuesday (13 October).

The five left the KPK’s Red and White Building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, at 4.48pm local time on Wednesday. They were seen wearing the anti-graft agency’s orange detainee vests.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that investigators had named several people as suspects. However, their identities have not yet been disclosed.

“After the case was formally moved to the investigation stage at last night’s case-review meeting, investigators named several people as suspects. Those suspects will subsequently be detained, while those who remain witnesses may leave,” Budi said.

The KPK previously said it had carried out a sting operation at the BNPB on Tuesday (13 October). The operation was related to the procurement of goods and services, as well as disaster-response ready funds.

The KPK arrested 14 people in the operation, including BNPB Secretary-General Rustian. The other 13 comprised commitment-making officials at the agency and private-sector parties.

“We will provide further details about who they are later. What is certain is that these 14 people are being questioned intensively at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta, including people from the BNPB and private-sector parties suspected of being connected to this incident,” Budi said.

Meanwhile, Rustian completed his questioning on Wednesday afternoon. He left the KPK building without wearing a detainee vest.
