KPK Detains Five BPK Auditors in Sting Operation, Soon to Determine Legal Status
Five civil servants from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) have been caught in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The five officials have now arrived at the KPK building for questioning. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that those detained are still undergoing intensive examination. Budi confirmed that an internal case review has elevated the matter to the investigation stage. The KPK will soon determine which parties will be named as suspects. He stated that based on sufficient and valid preliminary evidence, the closed inquiry was formally upgraded to an investigation. Investigators will subsequently name the parties designated as suspects in the suspected bribery case originating from the Muara Enim Regency administration in South Sumatra, involving individuals within the Supreme Audit Agency. The KPK noted that among those detained, some were apprehended as early as Tuesday. The suspects were arrested at multiple locations in Jakarta and South Sumatra. The operation targeted BPK officials in relation to a bribery case implicating Muara Enim Regent Edison. The KPK explained that the sting operation is connected to allegations of bribery regarding an audit of smart board procurement, aimed at covering up BPK findings concerning procurement activities within the Muara Enim administration, including the procurement of smart TVs. This sting operation is a continuation of the operation conducted against Regent Edison, with the KPK explaining that bribes were allegedly provided by the Muara Enim administration to BPK officials.
