Jakarta, VIVA – Moch Mahrus (MM), a member of the East Java Provincial Regional Representative Council (DPRD) for the 2024–2029 term who is suspected of bribing 2024–2029 national legislator Anwar Sadad, has been officially detained.

“The detention is for the first 20 days, running from 28 July to 16 August 2026. The detention is being carried out at the State Detention House, Red-and-White Building Branch of the KPK,” said Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Budi Prasetyo on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.

The anti-graft agency carried out the detention because MM had previously been named a suspect in the alleged corruption case concerning the management of grant funds for community groups (pokmas) at the East Java Provincial Government in the 2019–2022 budget years.

He also revealed that MM was named a suspect and subsequently detained in his capacity as manager of pokmas grant funds in Probolinggo Regency.

“MM is suspected of giving money amounting to Rp1.5 billion, gold weighing around one kilogram, as well as paying off a house in Surabaya and the establishment of an SPBE (bulk LPG filling station) business to AS through BGS (Bagus Wahyudiono, a staff member of Anwar Sadad),” he said.

According to him, suspect MM is suspected of providing or paying for these assets as bribes in order to obtain an allocation of Anwar Sadad’s pokmas grant funds — in his capacity as Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD for 2019–2024 — worth Rp83.4 billion.

Therefore, Budi said MM, as the suspected briber, has been charged under Article 5 Paragraph (1) letter a or letter b, or Article 13 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) point 1 of the old Criminal Code (KUHP).

Previously, the KPK announced it had named 21 suspects in the development of its investigation into the alleged corruption of East Java grant funds.

The case development stemmed from a sting operation in December 2022 targeting Sahat Tua Simanjuntak, Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD for 2019–2024.

On 2 October 2025, the KPK announced the identities of the 21 suspects in the case. However, on 16 December 2025, the KPK halted the investigation against one suspect who had passed away, namely Kusnadi, Speaker of the East Java DPRD for 2019–2024.

Consequently, the remaining 20 suspects are as follows:
