The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has disclosed the case entangling the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim. The KPK explained that the offences occurred whilst Silmy served as Director General of Immigration.

"Yes, amongst those is the timeframe when Silmy was Director General of Immigration," KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists on Thursday (4/6/2026).

The KPK detected violations when Silmy was still the number one person at the Directorate General of Immigration. "Because indeed, the alleged flow of orders or the flow of receiving money was carried out when the person concerned served as Director General," Budi said.

The KPK confirmed that the case involving Silmy relates to the processing of immigration documents. The KPK suspects extortion and gratification took place.

"In this case, the article charges used are Article 12E related to alleged corruption through extortion in the processing of immigration documents. It is also layered with Article 12B or other receipts or gratification," Budi stated.

Eight individuals have been directly detained by the KPK. They are Silmy Karim; Acting Director General of Immigration for 2024-2025 Saffar Muhammad Godam (SMG); Director of Residence Permits and Immigration Status at the Directorate General of Immigration Jaya Saputra (JS); Head of Sub-Directorate for Transfer of Residence Permit Status at the Directorate of Residence Permits and Immigration Status Tessar Bayu Setyaji (TBS); Head of Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Residence Permits Bagus Bramantyo (BGS); Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office for 2024-2025 and Head of the Class I Special Non-TPI West Jakarta Immigration Office for 2025-2026 Ronald Arman Abdullah (RAA); Team Leader for ITAS Status Transfer Juniadi Sri Priambudi (JSP); and staff of the Residence Permit Sub-Directorate Gusti Benardiansyah (GST).

They have been officially named as suspects and are being detained for the first 20 days at the KPK Red and White Building Branch Detention Centre. This suspect designation is based on the sufficiency of evidence held by investigators.

"Based on the sufficiency of evidence, the KPK has also named eight people as suspects out of a total of 18 people secured in the caught-red-handed operation," Budi said.

A total of 17 people were apprehended in the caught-red-handed operation targeting the Head of the West Jakarta Immigration Office, which began on Tuesday night (2/6/2026). Silmy Karim surrendered himself at the KPK’s Red and White building in South Jakarta on Wednesday evening.
