KPK Designates Aide to Non-Active Riau Governor as New Suspect in Alleged Corruption Case at Provincial Government
Jakarta, KOMPAS.com — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has designated Marjani, aide to non-active Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, as a new suspect in an alleged extortion or receipt of gifts or promises case at Riau Provincial Government involving non-active Riau Governor Abdul Wahid on Monday, 9 March 2026.
“The designation of this new suspect means confirming that the investigation of the case will continue,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Red and White Building in Jakarta on Monday.
Budi stated that investigators conducted witness examinations for suspect Marjani today.
“We will continue to examine other evidence and then look at it more deeply and more broadly,” he said.
Besides Abdul Wahid, the KPK designated two other suspects: Head of the PUPR-PKPP Department Muhammad Arief Setiawan and Technical Expert to Riau Governor Dani M Nursalam.
All three were arrested in a Sting Operation (OTT) in Riau on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
KPK Vice Chairman Johanis Tanak stated that the total amount of money from extortion using a racketeering scheme deposited for Riau Governor Abdul Wahid from the Head of the PUPR PKPP Work Unit amounted to 4.05 billion Indonesian rupiah.
The deposit was made following an agreement to provide a fee of 5 percent, or 7 billion Indonesian rupiah, for Riau Governor Abdul Wahid from the head of the PUPR Work Unit in Riau.
Due to their actions, the suspects are alleged to have violated provisions in Articles 12e and/or 12f and/or 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Offences as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Offences read together with Article 55 paragraph (1) number 1 of the Criminal Code.
