KPK Denies Special Treatment in Detention of Febrie at KPK Detention Centre
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has denied allegations that the placement of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah in the KPK detention centre is a form of special treatment. The anti-graft body emphasised that the mechanism is a common practice between the KPK and the Attorney General’s Office to support the investigation process.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the transfer of detainees between law enforcement agencies is not unprecedented. He noted that both the KPK and the Attorney General’s Office have previously transferred detainees to one another when required for investigative purposes. “This has happened before. When there is a need in the investigation process, the possibility is open. The KPK has also carried out detention transfers several times,” Budi said at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday evening.
Budi explained that Febrie’s placement in the KPK detention centre is a form of support from the KPK to the Attorney General’s Office in handling the ongoing case. However, he stressed that all authority regarding the detention and investigation remains with the Attorney General’s Office investigators. “The authority for the detention and the investigation process remains with the Attorney General’s Office investigators,” he stated.
The KPK also assured that Febrie will not receive special treatment while serving his detention at the KPK facility. Budi confirmed that the former Jampidsus will be placed with other detainees in accordance with standard procedures.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Office revealed the reasons for placing Febrie in the KPK detention centre. The Junior Attorney General for Supervision, who also serves as the Coordinator of Team 9 handling Febrie’s case, Rudi Margono, said the decision was made with consideration for the suspect’s protection. According to Rudi, during his tenure as Jampidsus, Febrie handled several major cases, leading investigators to deem it necessary to provide protection during the legal process.
In addition to security factors, the Attorney General’s Office assessed that the placement at the KPK detention centre also aims to maintain accountability and transparency in handling the case while strengthening synergy between the two law enforcement institutions. Febrie Adriansyah was previously named a suspect in a case of alleged corruption and money laundering related to PT Asabri. Following an examination on Friday, he was detained for an initial 20-day period and placed in the KPK detention centre during the investigation.
