KPK Delays Transfer of Yaqut's Hajj Quota Corruption Case Files Until After 2026 Hajj
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has delayed the transfer of case files in the alleged 2023-2024 Hajj quota corruption case involving former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas until after the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, said the move was made because several witnesses in the case are serving as Hajj officers in 2026. “Regarding the transfer, this is also linked to the current Hajj pilgrimage. Yesterday, we coordinated with the Ministry of Hajj regarding the Hajj operations as many witnesses are serving as Hajj officers who will testify in court,” Asep said at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026. “We do not want the accused to still be performing their Hajj duties during the trial, which could disrupt the pilgrimage,” he added. In addition to Yaqut, the KPK has also detained another suspect, Stasus Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, alias Gus Alex, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. Both are charged under Articles 2 and 3 of the Anti-Corruption Law (UU Tipikor), which cover state losses. According to KPK and BPK calculations, the state loss from this corruption case amounts to Rp 622 billion.
