KPK, council unite in antigraft drive

JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the City Council have agreed to work together to fight corruption in the council.

The draft of the agreement was discussed by KPK monitoring director Roni M. Maulana and council speaker Ade Surapriatna during a meeting at the council building on Jl. Kebon Sirih in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

"The council leaders agreed that we will study the organization of the council so we can better understand how to prevent corruption there," Roni said after a meeting with council leaders.

He said the KPK also hoped to cooperate with other regional councils across the country in fighting corruption.

Roni did not provide any details on the cooperation, but said it would include studying the different offices in the council to better understand their problems and how to overcome them. --JP
