KPK Coordinates with Disaster-Affected Regional Governments to Prevent Aid Misappropriation

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will coordinate with a number of regional governments affected by disasters. The coordination is intended to ensure there is no misappropriation of aid provided to disaster victims.

“Of course we are working together with the Deputy for Coordination and Supervision, which directly interacts with regional governments, and even with other deputies,” said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto to journalists at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Monday (17/8/2026).

Setyo said the KPK is opening the widest possible space for the public if they find any suspected misappropriation in aid distribution. Every complaint will later be reviewed by the KPK.

“If there is information, the first thing needed is certainly information. The public can provide information to the KPK whenever there is a suspicion or indication of misuse in the distribution of aid from any source that should be directed to the public but is then not distributed,” Setyo explained.

“After that, there will be a review, assessment, and other actions to follow up. What does that mean? The KPK’s authority remains over state officials and law enforcement officers. After that, it extends to other parties, including the private sector and others,” he added.

He also said the KPK has frequently supervised the distribution of aid. According to him, the most important aspect of aid delivery is that it must be carried out transparently.

“I think the KPK has carried out such activities several times. The first thing needed is transparency. The central government then assigns agencies or institutions and ministries that are directly involved there, and even directly involves regional governments,” he concluded.
