KPK Considers Summoning Son of Anwar Sadad in East Java Grant Corruption Case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is considering re-summoning Muhammad Haykal Ismail Sadad, the son of former East Java DPRD Deputy Chairman Anwar Sadad, after he failed to appear as a witness in a corruption investigation. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated on Wednesday that investigators are still awaiting confirmation regarding Haykal’s absence from the scheduled examination on Tuesday. ‘The witness did not attend. Investigators are still waiting for his confirmation,’ he said. According to Budi, investigators are considering re-summoning Haykal because his testimony is needed to complete the evidence in the case. On the same day, investigators also examined a private sector witness with the initials AHF regarding an alleged land transaction involving suspect Anwar Sadad. The KPK previously named 21 suspects in the East Java grant fund corruption case, which stemmed from a sting operation in December 2022. Following the death of one suspect, former East Java DPRD Deputy Chairman Kusnadi, the number of active suspects stands at 20. As of 28 July 2026, the KPK has detained eight suspects, including Wawan Kristiawan, Sukar, Hasanuddin, and Jodi Pradana Putra in the bribery cluster related to Kusnadi, as well as Achmad Yahya, M. Fathullah, Ra Wahid Ruslan, and Moch. Mahrus in the bribery cluster related to Anwar Sadad and Bagus Wahyudiono. The full list of 20 suspects includes three alleged bribe recipients: Anwar Sadad, Achmad Iskandar, and Bagus Wahyudiono, along with 17 alleged bribe givers from various regions across East Java.
