KPK Considers Forestry Minister's Statement on Envelope from Kuantan Singingi Regent as Additional Information
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is treating a statement by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni about receiving an envelope from Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing) Regent Suhardiman Amby, which he subsequently returned, as additional information. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told journalists in Jakarta on Friday (3/7) that the minister’s account would enrich the investigation, particularly regarding whether the money in the envelope was connected to the process of releasing forest area permits. Budi explained that the minister’s statement provided context, as the KPK had previously obtained initial information about Suhardiman collecting money from several village unit cooperatives (KUD) in the Kuansing area. He added that investigators were open to requesting statements from parties who could clarify the matter.
Meanwhile, at the Ministry of Forestry in Jakarta, Raja Juli held a press conference to further explain his meeting with Suhardiman. He confirmed that an open audience with the Kuansing Regent took place at his office on 2 June 2026, complete with an official letter, social media publication, attendance list, and minutes. The minister stated that after the meeting, he realised the regent had left behind an envelope inside a folder. He immediately instructed his aide-de-camp to return it without knowing its contents. The return was initially planned for 5 June but was delayed because the aide was required to assist the minister in a meeting with the Junior Attorney General for Civil and State Administration (Jamdatun). The envelope was eventually returned on 12 June 2026 at around 2:57 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, facilitated by the Riau Regional Police Chief, at the Kuansing Police Chief’s office.
On 1 July 2026, the KPK named Suhardiman, Kuansing Regional Secretary Zulkarnain, and PT Mitra Ideal Consultant President Director Ardiles as suspects in an alleged bribery case related to the buying and selling of positions within the Kuantan Singingi Regency Government. The KPK also suspects Suhardiman of receiving gratuities linked to the release of limited production forest areas. Raja Juli Antoni affirmed his commitment to assisting the KPK in eradicating corruption, particularly within the forestry sector, stating this commitment aligns with values he has long upheld in both his personal life and public duties.
