KPK Confirms Yaqut Has Been Under House Arrest Since 19 March, Stemming from Information from Ebenezer's Wife
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced that former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) and suspect in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ), has been under house arrest since 19 March 2026. The KPK stated that this step was taken temporarily.
“Investigators have changed the type of detention for suspect YCQ, from detention in the KPK Branch State Detention House to house arrest, since Thursday (19/3/2026) evening,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Saturday (21/3/2026).
Further, Budi explained that Yaqut’s family requested the KPK on 17 March 2026 to change the type of detention for the Hajj quota case suspect. After that, he said the KPK reviewed the request and granted it, considering Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law 20/2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).
Article 108 paragraph (1) of the KUHAP only regulates the types of detention consisting of detention in a detention house, house arrest, and city arrest. Meanwhile, Article 108 paragraph (11) regulates that the change in type of detention can be carried out based on an investigation warrant, copies of which are given to the suspect, the suspect’s family, and relevant institutions.
“Its implementation is by temporarily changing the type of detention,” he continued.
Meanwhile, he assured that the KPK continues to conduct close supervision and security for Yaqut after he became temporarily under house arrest.
“We ensure that this temporary change of detention complies with the provisions and procedures for investigation and detention of a suspect. Likewise, the handling of this case will continue to proceed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he said.
Previously, on Saturday (21/3/2026), the wife of suspect in the alleged corruption case in the form of extortion and former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, namely Silvia Rinita Harefa, spoke to journalists. After visiting Ebenezer, Silvia spoke to the journalists waiting for her that information was circulating among the detainees regarding Yaqut not being seen in the detention house.
