The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that a sting operation was carried out at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) in Central Java on Thursday (20/8). The KPK said that not only university leaders are being investigated in the operation.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said investigators are still examining the involvement of several other parties in the matter. However, he could not provide more detailed information because the investigation is still ongoing.

“It is not only the vice-rector; there are other individuals being investigated by our investigators,” Setyo said in a written statement to journalists on Friday (21/8).

Setyo said the KPK investigation team is still working to uncover the alleged offence that formed the basis of the sting operation. As a result, the KPK has not yet provided details regarding the identities or roles of each of the parties detained.

Information obtained from within the KPK indicates that at least five people were caught in the operation. They include two Unsoed leaders, namely Vice-Rector I for Academic Affairs with the initials NF and Vice-Rector III for Student and Alumni Affairs with the initials NAP.

In addition, two external parties with the initials AW and M were detained, as well as a member of the vice-rector’s staff. The source said the case under investigation relates to the student admission process through the independent pathway of Unsoed’s Faculty of Medicine.

“It is related to the independent medical faculty admission pathway,” the source said when asked about the case under investigation on Friday (21/8).

As is known, the KPK brought a number of parties from Banyumas to Jakarta after they underwent examination at the Banyumas Police Criminal Investigation Unit building. The examination lasted around 11 hours from Thursday afternoon until the evening.

One of the parties brought to Jakarta was Unsoed Vice-Rector III for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof Norman Arie Prayoga.

Besides Norman, Unsoed Vice-Rector I for Academic Affairs Prof Noor Farid and Unsoed Head of Academic and Student Affairs Eko Sumanto were also brought. From outside the campus, the KPK also examined Adhi Wiharto, Dian Mulia Wardhana alias Kating, and Mulyono alias Nono.

The KPK entourage was known to have left the Banyumas Police Criminal Investigation Unit building at around 10.45 pm local time. A number of bags believed to contain documents were also carried in the entourage.

Meanwhile, at almost the same time, the KPK also carried out a sting operation in Bogor Regency, West Java. A number of agency heads were reportedly caught in that operation.

However, the KPK has not yet provided an official statement regarding the details of the case or the parties detained in the Bogor operation.

For the sting operation at Unsoed, the KPK still has time to determine the legal status of the detained parties after the initial examination.

The KPK is scheduled to provide an update on the case after the investigation and examination process is completed.
