Jakarta, 9 March 2026 — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is confident that the procedures for designating former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas as a suspect have been properly followed. Asep Guntur Rahayu, the KPK’s Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, expressed confidence that the KPK will prevail in the pre-trial lawsuit filed by Yaqut.

“We are convinced that what we have done formally complies with the legislation and internal regulations of the KPK,” said Asep when contacted by journalists on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Asep stated that the agency will be guided by the judge’s ruling regarding the follow-up handling of the alleged hajj quota case involving Yaqut. “For the next steps, we await the decision of the pre-trial court in question,” he said.

Asep also appealed to the public for support to enable the KPK to continue handling the hajj quota case. “We ask for the prayers of all Indonesians so that we can continue handling this hajj quota case, so that the people who have been harmed can obtain justice,” he stated.

The pre-trial lawsuit, numbered 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN.JKT.SEL, concerns the validity of Yaqut’s designation as a suspect by the KPK in the alleged corruption case involving hajj quotas in 2023-2024. The court classified the case as determining whether the designation of the suspect was valid or invalid.

Yaqut has requested that the single judge at the South Jakarta District Court annul three investigation directive letters (Sprindik) that formed the basis for the KPK’s legal proceedings against him. The three letters in question are: Letter Number Sprin.Dik/61/DIK.00/01/08/2025 dated 8 August 2025; Letter Number Sprin.Dik/61A.2025/DIK.00/01/11/2025 dated 21 November 2025; and Letter Number Sprin.Dik/01/Dik.00/01/01/2026 dated 8 January 2026.
