KPK Conducts Sting Operation Arresting Muara Enim Regent Edison
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, during a sting operation (OTT) in South Sumatra. This arrest represents the twelfth sting operation carried out by the KPK in 2026.
“It is true,” stated KPK Vice Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto to journalists in Jakarta on Monday (8/6/2026).
In a separate statement, KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo noted that the anti-corruption agency apprehended nine other individuals during the operation. “The team secured ten people across the Jakarta and South Sumatra regions. Five individuals are from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the Regent, while the other five are from the private sector,” said Budi.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those detained during the operation.
Earlier this year, the KPK’s 2026 enforcement streak began with the arrest of eight individuals between 9–10 January 2026, involving alleged bribery related to tax audits at the North Jakarta Medium Tax Office under the Directorate General of Taxes.
Subsequent operations in 2026 included the arrest of Madiun Mayor Maidi on 19 January for alleged extortion involving project funds and CSR, and the arrest of Pati Regent Sudewo on 19 January regarding alleged extortion in village official appointments. Other notable operations included arrests related to tax restitution in Banjarmasin, customs-related corruption involving a former Customs Director, and land dispute corruption involving officials from the Depok District Court.
More recent high-profile arrests include the Pekalongan Regent, the Rejang Lebong Regent, the Cilacap Regent, and the Tulungagung Regent, as well as an operation involving the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, regarding extortion in foreign residency permit processing.
