KPK conducts raids in Madiun as investigation into Maidi case expands
Madiun — Investigators from the Corruption Eradasting Commission (KPK) have conducted searches at several locations within Madiun City, East Java, as part of the expanded investigation into the alleged corruption case involving inactive Mayor Maidi.
“Investigators conducted searches at three residential locations as part of the investigation development in Madiun City,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a statement in Madiun on Wednesday.
The three residential locations searched included the house of inactive Mayor Maidi, the house of an individual identified as HD, a relative of Maidi, and the residence of a sub-district head within the Madiun City area. Additionally, the KPK conducted a search at the Madiun City Communications and Informatics Office (Kominfo).
According to Budi Prasetyo, these raids are part of the KPK’s efforts to deepen its investigation into assets owned by inactive Mayor Maidi, specifically regarding suspected gratification and money laundering (TPPU) within the Madiun City Government.
“The investigators are focusing on asset tracing, specifically the ‘follow the money’ approach, searching for assets suspected to be related to or purchased using funds from alleged corruption committed by the parties involved,” he said.
He continued that the searches are part of the compulsory measures during the investigation stage, aimed at completing the evidence required to build a full legal construction of the case. This includes tracing the conversion of assets allegedly carried out by the suspects.
In the investigation of this expanded case, the KPK is using a general investigation order issued on 23 September 2026, and no suspects have been officially named in this specific phase yet.
“We will certainly provide updates once there is further development in this investigation,” he added.
As previously reported, the case originated from a sting operation (OTT) against Maidi on 19 January 2026. A day after the operation, the KPK named Maidi, Rochim Ruhdiyanto (an associate of Maidi), and the Head of the Madiun City Public Works and Spatial Planning Office, Thariq Megah, as suspects.
The KPK revealed two clusters of offences in the case: alleged extortion related to project rewards and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, and alleged receipt of gratifications within the Madiun City Government.
In the first cluster, the extortion allegations implicate Maidi and Rochim Ruhdiyanto as suspects. In the second cluster, the gratification allegations implicate Maidi alongside Thariq Megah.
In the related proceedings, KPK Public Prosecutors demanded a prison sentence of seven years and two months for inactive Mayor Maidi, along with a fine of Rp205 million, or a subsidiary of 90 days’ imprisonment, for corruption and gratification totalling Rp10.7 billion.
In addition to the sentence, the defendant, Maidi, was also ordered to pay restitution of Rp8 billion. If he is unable to pay, his assets will be confiscated, and if they are insufficient, the deficit will be replaced by five years of imprisonment.
