The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated it is cooperating with the Corruption Eradiction Corps of the Indonesian National Police (Kortastipidkor Polri) to address human resource needs and other challenges. “To overcome obstacles or limitations at the KPK, such as human resources, widely dispersed operational areas, and the volume of case handling, several breakthroughs must be made,” said Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

Taufik added that cooperation with Kortastipidkor Polri will be intensified to resolve cases with carry-over status, meaning their investigation warrants were issued by the KPK before 2026. “Because we recognise that some long-outstanding cases have stalled during closed inquiries like this,” he said.

He made the statement to clarify the joint investigation measures between the KPK and Kortastipidkor Polri in a closed inquiry implicating Muara Enim Regent Edison. For Edison’s case, he explained that Kortastipidkor Polri assisted the KPK with investigative activities in the South Sumatra region. “We emphasise, and this is a confirmation, that the current activities in Muara Enim Regency are solely investigative activities in the area assisted by a team from the National Police Headquarters. The subsequent handling, particularly for Muara Enim, will be fully undertaken by KPK investigators,” he clarified.

Regarding the division of tasks, Taufik noted that formulas are still being developed for regions or regencies outside Java. He did not rule out the possibility of Kortastipidkor Polri assisting the KPK on Java Island as well. “Then whether existing clusters at the central level will also be considered for subsequent activities,” he added.

Furthermore, Taufik said the KPK is open to the possibility of cooperating with other law enforcement agencies, such as the Attorney General’s Office. “Are there other law enforcement agencies? Yes, we will certainly invite the Attorney General’s Office because there will be breakthroughs ahead,” he said.

Separately, Deputy Head of Kortastipidkor Polri, Brigadier General De Deo, stated that his corps previously assisted the KPK when still part of the Criminal Investigation Department. “Some time ago, if I am not mistaken in 2021, we also carried out a joint investigation in a closed inquiry operation. However, at that time we were still part of Bareskrim, specifically the corruption crime directorate,” said De Deo.

Following the establishment of Kortastipidkor Polri, De Deo said his party is targeting the optimisation of anti-corruption efforts together with the KPK and the expansion of the scope of work from solely central level, as it is today, to the regional level. “We are also developing work patterns for handling corruption at the regional level, so this experience will serve as input for us to enhance the role of corruption eradication, particularly at the regional level, as a consequence of Kortastipidkor’s formation,” he concluded.
