KPK Clarifies Red and White Building Not on Fire, Only Smoke from Protection System

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has corrected reports of a fire that was said to have occurred at the KPK’s Red and White Building on Saturday, 29 August 2026. The KPK has confirmed that no fire took place inside the building.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the smoke that was briefly visible in the building area did not come from a fire. The smoke appeared as a result of the fire-fighting system activating after detecting smoke from fogging activities being carried out in the building area.

“We confirm that there was no fire at the KPK’s Red and White Building. We were conducting fogging in the building area, and the smoke from the fogging was detected by the fire-fighting equipment, which then responded by automatically releasing smoke,” Budi said.

Budi explained that the fire-fighting system is part of the protection equipment that functions to extinguish any sparks that may occur in electronic devices. According to him, the system responded to the smoke detected during the fogging activity. Therefore, the smoke that was subsequently seen in the building area was not caused by a fire.

“So the smoke that appeared was not from a fire, but from the fire-fighting equipment,” he said.

Although no fire occurred, Budi confirmed that the incident took place in the basement area of the KPK’s Red and White Building. Specifically, the location was the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) battery room.

The KPK then took steps to ensure the area remained safe. The General Bureau team immediately carried out suction or extraction of the smoke inside the room. In addition, inspections were also conducted in several other areas as a mitigation measure to prevent potential risks.

“Currently, the General Bureau team is vacuuming the smoke and conducting checks in other areas to mitigate and prevent potential risks,” Budi said.

Previously, reports of a suspected fire at the KPK’s Red and White Building had emerged and prompted firefighting personnel to be deployed to the location. A total of 14 personnel from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Sudin Gulkarmat) were dispatched to handle the report.
