KPK Clarifies Handling of Febrie Murni Case at Attorney General's Office: We Are Only Providing Detention Facilities
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has emphasised that the case involving the former Director of Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah (FA), is being handled by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung).
Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, explained that the KPK is merely providing the detention facility for Febrie. Consequently, the entire investigation process is being conducted by the Attorney General’s Office’s ‘team nine’.
‘Regarding the detention of FA, we are only involved in terms of the detention facility; the actual handling of the case is being managed by the Attorney General’s Office’s team nine,’ he stated, as reported on Sunday, 2 July 2026.
Taufik explained that the KPK’s current authority is limited to coordination and supervision, unless specific conditions arise that require the agency to take over the investigation. ‘Unless, in accordance with the provisions of Article 10, there are circumstances that necessitate the KPK taking over the handling of the case,’ he clarified.
For context, Febrie Adriansyah was officially detained on Friday night, 24 July 2026, following an interrogation as a suspect in an alleged money laundering case. He is currently being held at the KPK Detention Centre (Rutan).
‘Firstly, Mr FA has been named a suspect and will be detained for the next 20 days, starting from the 24th, at the KPK Detention Centre, as we have just witnessed,’ said Attorney General Rudi Margono at the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta on Friday, 24 July 2026.
He noted that the decision to use the KPK facility was made after considering Febrie’s track record in handling several major cases. ‘Many are asking why the KPK? We are ensuring that the individual has, at the very least, contributed to handling major cases,’ he added.
The Attorney General’s Office believes that placing Febrie in the KPK detention centre also serves to provide protection for the individual and ensures the investigation process remains transparent.
According to observations at the KPK Detention Centre, Febrie arrived at approximately 23:22 WIB in an Attorney General’s Office detention vehicle. He was escorted by several guards as he exited the vehicle and entered the facility. He did not provide any statements to the media waiting at the site and proceeded into the detention centre for processing prior to his formal detention.
