The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that the 8.5-year prison sentence demand against the inactive Regent of Pati, Sudewo, is based on the results of the evidentiary process.

“Regarding the indictment read by the KPK Public Prosecutor, we need to emphasise that the demand was formulated based on the results of the evidentiary process that has taken place in court,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, as reported on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.

Budi explained that legal facts, witness testimonies, evidence, and various other elements revealed during the trial were considered by the Public Prosecutor in drafting the indictment. Consequently, the demand is part of the law enforcement process, constructed upon trial facts and applicable legal provisions.

Furthermore, Budi revealed that the entire case handling process faced by Sudewo has proceeded in accordance with procedural law, while maintaining the principles of professionalism, transparency, and accountability. “The KPK ensures that the entire process of handling this case is running according to the provisions of procedural law,” he clarified.

Previously, the Public Prosecutor demanded an 8.5-year prison sentence for the inactive Regent of Pati, Sudewo. Sudewo is the defendant in a corruption case involving projects within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) and the recruitment of village officials in Pati.

In addition to the 8.5-year prison term, the KPK Public Prosecutor also demanded that Sudewo pay a fine of Rp300 million. Failure to pay this fine would result in an additional 100 days of imprisonment.

In the indictment, the Prosecutor stated that the defendant was proven guilty of violating Articles 12 letter b, Article 12 B, and Article 12 letter E of Law Number 31 of 1999, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes.

The Prosecutor noted that the defendant was proven to have abused his authority and position as a member of Commission V of the DPR (House of Representatives) during 2021-2022, as well as his role as the Regent of Pati. In the DJKA corruption case, the defendant was found to have received bribes amounting to Rp1.3 billion, as well as gratifications in the form of money and goods valued at Rp2.3 billion.

Meanwhile, in the case involving the alleged extortion regarding village official appointments, the defendant is alleged to have abused his authority to enrich himself and three other defendants, namely Sumarjiono, Abdul Suyono, and Sukarjan. The Prosecutor assessed that the defendant’s actions have damaged public trust in the DPR RI and local government. Additionally, the Prosecutor demanded an additional penalty: the payment of Rp3.6 billion in state loss compensation. If not paid, this will be replaced by three years of imprisonment.

The Prosecutor also requested that the judge revoke the defendant’s right to be elected to public office for five years, to be served after the defendant has completed his primary sentence.
