JAKARTA — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has advised the public to be more discerning in selecting regional leaders in regional elections (Pilkada) following nine regional heads being ensnared in sting operations (OTT).

“The public must be smarter in light of incidents such as these. Hopefully this provides a lesson to society,” said Asep Guntur Rahayu, KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, at the Red and White Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

“So it is not just based on what is received or what is given, or pragmatic considerations. Rewards then voting like that. Rather, truly choose those of quality,” he said.

Those arrested include East Kolaka Regent Abdul Azis, Riau Governor Abdul Wahia, Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko, Central Lampung Regent Ardito Wijaya, and Bekasi Regent Ade Kuswara Kunang.

Additionally, Madiun Mayor Maidi, Pati Regent Sudewo, Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq, and Rejang Lebong Regent Muhammad Fikri Thobari were arrested.
