KPK Chief Urges Papuan Students to Oversee Special Autonomy Funds

Jayapura (ANTARA) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto has called on students in Papua to oversee the use of Special Autonomy (Otsus) funds to ensure their distribution is on target and benefits the community.

Speaking in Jayapura on Friday, Setyo emphasised the importance of monitoring the use of Otsus funds, as the budget is intended to improve the welfare of the Papuan people. “Moreover, the Otsus funds have been disbursed since 2001, so with oversight, it is hoped that the distribution will be right on target,” he said in response to a question from ANTARA.

According to him, since 2024, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs have changed the Otsus fund management system through digitalisation, making the distribution process more transparent. Setyo said the KPK is also encouraging transparency in the use of Otsus funds so that the public knows the amount of funds that have been distributed and how they are used.

He noted that oversight can also be carried out by the community, including law enforcement officials in Papua, to support accountable Otsus fund management. “Otsus funds are public money that must be accounted for, especially for the benefit of indigenous Papuans,” he said.

Papua’s Special Autonomy funds have been rolled out since 2002. According to data compiled by ANTARA, the central government has distributed approximately Rp190.9 trillion up to 2025, with an allocation of Rp12.69 trillion for 2026.
