KPK Chief to Tighten Data Security System After Staff Member Named Suspect
Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto has responded to the naming of a KPK administrative staff member as a suspect in a case involving Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyanto. Setyo stressed that the incident serves as a moment of introspection for the agency to prevent similar occurrences.
“This is a moment of introspection, meaning how the data and information security systems at the KPK must be improved so this does not happen again,” Setyo said at the KPK building in Kuningan, Jakarta, on Thursday (30/7/2026).
According to Setyo, the case has also affected internal morale and performance at the KPK. He confirmed that an evaluation would be conducted and that the staff member involved would be held accountable for their actions.
“These problems, at the very least, have somewhat affected morale, mentality, and performance. We discussed it yesterday so that it does not recur, does not happen again, and there will certainly be accountability,” he stated.
As a corrective measure, the KPK will tighten its document and information security systems, particularly in the process of distributing documents from investigators to the leadership. Access to these documents will also be restricted to only those with a legitimate interest.
“The evaluation carried out, for example, ensures that the document process from the investigator to the leadership is truly safeguarded. Not everyone can view them, especially parties with no interest or staff who have no connection to it,” he said.
Furthermore, the KPK will implement a logging system or access records for documents, including who opened a document, when it was accessed, and how long it was viewed.
“Even if it enters the administrative section, there should at least be a log, a history, a record of who viewed it, at what time, and how long they were there,” he explained.
It is known that the KPK has named four suspects in an extortion case involving Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. One of the suspects is Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto, an administrative staff member at the KPK.
Setya provided information from the KPK to his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto. Lilik then used this information to extort Anom. Consequently, Anom extorted his subordinates and managed to collect Rp 1.9 billion, of which Rp 1.2 billion was handed over to Lilik.
The four suspects in the case are:
Anom Widiyantoro, Regent of Pemalang
Mohamad Haris, a private sector party or confidant of the Regent
Lilik Budi Suprianto, a private sector party
Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto, a KPK administrative staff member
