KPK Chief Still Haunted by Failure to Locate Fugitive Harun Masiku
Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto has admitted that the agency’s leadership remains burdened by the failure to locate Harun Masiku, a former PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) legislative candidate who is a fugitive in an alleged bribery case. ‘HM [Harun Masiku] remains a burden for the leadership, in particular. Even though the case dates back quite a while to 2020-2021, to this day, to put it simply, the leadership is still haunted by it,’ Setyo said at his office in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7).
On the same day, the KPK held a press conference to discuss its performance during the first semester of 2026, covering enforcement, prevention and monitoring, coordination and supervision, as well as anti-corruption education. Setyo revealed that the search for Harun weighs on their minds because every case disclosure at the KPK always attracts public scrutiny. Nevertheless, he assured that the KPK will continue to hunt for Harun and other fugitives who have yet to be found.
‘We will certainly keep pursuing this, we will keep processing the information, so that later the status of HM’s case can be confirmed, including the others that already exist, where the person is still around and the case status is still ongoing. Of course, it is just a matter of time,’ he stated. On the same occasion, KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto added that the anti-corruption agency continues to strive to locate several fugitives as long as their cases have not been dropped. ‘If we have made our maximum efforts but still cannot find them, perhaps they have died, we do not know, but we will keep making those efforts. We will keep chasing until the statute of limitations expires,’ Fitroh said.
The suspects yet to be processed by the KPK include Paulus Tannos, President Director of PT Sandipala Arthaputra, in the e-KTP case; Kirana Kotama, owner of PT Perusa Sejati, who acted as an intermediary in a bribery case involving directors of PT PAL Indonesia; as well as Emylia Said and Herwansyah, who are suspected of bribing former police officer AKBP Bambang Kayun Bagus Panji Sugiharto. Regarding Paulus Tannos, he has been located and is currently undergoing a court hearing challenging his arrest, with extradition efforts still underway between Indonesia and Singapore.
