KPK Chief Speaks Out on Admin Staff Suspected of Extorting Pemalang Regent

Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Setyo Budiyanto, has stated that the agency will conduct an evaluation following the naming of a police officer serving at the KPK as administrative staff, Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto, as a suspect in an alleged extortion case involving Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro.

“This serves as introspection, meaning how our data security and information security systems at the KPK can be improved so that these problems do not recur — problems which, to some extent, affect morale, mental state and performance. We discussed this yesterday so that it does not happen again, and there will certainly be accountability,” Setyo said at the first-semester performance report event at the KPK Support Building in Jakarta on Thursday (30/7).

Setyo further assured that documents and important information would in future be accessible only to certain parties.

“The evaluation being carried out, for example, ensures that the flow of documents from investigators to leadership is properly safeguarded. Not everyone should be able to see them, especially unauthorised parties or employees with no connection to the matter,” Setyo said.

“Even if documents enter the administrative section, there should at least be a log, a history, a record of who viewed them, at what time, and for how long — so that if something goes wrong or something improper occurs, leadership can trace where the bottleneck was, where the leak came from, and who did something wrong,” he continued.

The KPK has named four people as suspects in connection with the alleged extortion case within the Pemalang Regency Government in Central Java Province.

They are the Pemalang Regent for the 2025–2030 term, Anom Widiyantoro; Anom’s trusted aide, Mohamad Haris alias Gus Haris; the police officer serving at the KPK as administrative staff, Setya Budi Dias Oktavianto; and Dias’s father, Lilik Budi Suprianto, a private citizen. Dias is also known to have served as an aide to KPK leadership.

The suspects have been detained for the first 20 days, from 30 July until 18 August 2026. The detention is being carried out at the State Detention House (Rutan) at the KPK’s Red and White Building Branch.
