KPK Chief Says Agency Does Not Want to Be Trapped in Debate Over Law Revision
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto has said his institution does not want to become trapped in the discourse surrounding the proposed revision of Law Number 19 of 2019 on the KPK to revert to the previous legislation, Law Number 30 of 2002.
"We do not want to get caught up in matters of amendments and so forth," Setyo Budiyanto said at the KPK's Juang Building in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Setyo explained that the KPK under his leadership operates on the principle of working in accordance with the prevailing regulations.
"Our principle is simply to get on with the work. We carry out the current law. Later, if there are proposals or amendments, let those with the authority deal with it," he said.
He therefore stated that the KPK is currently maintaining its focus on combating corruption across education, prevention, and enforcement.
The discourse on revising the KPK Law to revert to the previous version originated from a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and several prominent figures on 30 January 2026. Among them was former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad.
Following the meeting, Abraham told the media that he had requested Prabowo restore the KPK Law to its form prior to the revision carried out during Joko Widodo's presidency.
On 13 February 2026, Jokowi responded to Abraham's proposal and stated his agreement with the suggestion.
Nevertheless, Presidential Spokesperson and State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi affirmed that the government has no plans to revise the KPK Law.
