KPK Chief Admits Harun Masiku Remains a Burden, Still at Large

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said that unresolved cases and fugitives still at large weigh on him and the commission’s other leaders. Among the cases keeping him preoccupied is that of fugitive Harun Masiku.

“Yes, the fugitive HM (Harun Masiku) — to this day it remains a burden for the leadership. Although the case is quite old, from 2021, 2020, as of today, in simple terms the leadership is still thinking about it,” Setyo said at a press conference on the KPK’s first-half 2026 performance at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Thursday (30/7/2026).

Setyo said the public always asks about developments in Harun Masiku’s arrest. He also stressed that public support is needed to apprehend Harun.

“We understand that every time there is a case disclosure or press conference, there is always a public response asking about the clarity of HM’s status,” he said.

On the same occasion, KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto said old cases that have not yet expired will not be closed under an SP3 (termination of investigation warrant). He affirmed that maximum efforts continue to be made.

“If indeed we have made maximum efforts but he has not been found — perhaps he is already dead, we don’t know. But those efforts will continue. We will keep pursuing him before the statute of limitations expires,” Fitroh said.

Harun is a suspect in a bribery case concerning the replacement of a member of parliament in 2020. Harun, a PDIP legislative candidate, bribed Wahyu Setiawan, who was then a Commissioner of the General Election Commission (KPU), to help him become an MP through the replacement mechanism.

Wahyu Setiawan has been prosecuted and sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of accepting bribes of around Rp 600 million. Wahyu has since been released. The KPK has also revoked Harun’s passport.
