KPK Chief Admits Harun Masiku Remains a Burden, Still at Large

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto has stated that unresolved cases and fugitives who remain at large are a burden for him and other leaders. He admitted that the case of fugitive Harun Masiku is particularly troubling. “DPO HM (Harun Masiku), until now, is still a burden for the leadership. Even though the case has been going on since 2020 and 2021, the leadership is still, to put it simply, thinking about it,” Setyo said during a press conference on the KPK’s first-semester 2026 performance achievements at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Thursday (30/7). Setyo noted that the public always asks about the progress of Harun Masiku’s arrest. He also emphasised the need for public support to apprehend Harun. “We understand that every time there is a case disclosure or press conference, there is always a public response asking about the clarity of HM’s status,” he said. On the same occasion, KPK Deputy Chairperson Fitroh Rohcahyanto stated that old cases will not be closed or issued with a termination order (SP3) as long as the statute of limitations has not expired. He stressed that maximum efforts are ongoing. “If we have made maximum efforts but still cannot find him, perhaps he has died, we do not know. But the efforts will continue. We will keep pursuing before the statute of limitations expires,” Fitroh stated. Harun is a suspect in a bribery case related to an inter-time replacement (PAW) of a DPR member in 2020. Harun, a legislative candidate from PDIP, bribed Wahyu Setiawan, who was then a KPU commissioner, to help him become a DPR member through the PAW mechanism. Wahyu Setiawan has been processed and sentenced to 7 years in prison for accepting bribes of around IDR 600 million. Wahyu has since been released. The KPK has also revoked Harun’s passport.
