Jakarta, VIVA – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Setyo Budiyanto has said his institution does not wish to become entangled in the discourse surrounding a revision of Law Number 19 of 2019 on the KPK to revert to the provisions of the previous legislation, Law Number 30 of 2002.

"We don't want to get caught up in matters of legislative changes and so forth," Setyo Budiyanto said at the KPK's Gedung Juang headquarters in Jakarta, as quoted on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

Setyo explained that under his leadership, the KPK's guiding principle is to work in accordance with the regulations currently in force.

"Our principle is simply to get on with the work. We will implement the current law. Later, if there are proposals or changes, let those with the relevant authority deal with it," he said.

He added that the KPK is currently maintaining its focus on combating corruption across the areas of education, prevention, and enforcement.

The discourse on revising the KPK Law to restore the previous legislation originated from a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and a number of prominent figures on 30 January 2026. Among them was former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad.

Following the meeting, Abraham told the media that he had asked Prabowo to restore the KPK Law to its form prior to its revision during the administration of President Joko Widodo.

On 13 February 2026, Jokowi responded to Abraham's proposal and expressed his agreement with it.

Nevertheless, Presidential Spokesperson and State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi affirmed that the government has no plans to revise the KPK Law.
