KPK Chair Discusses Possibility of Questioning Bogor Regent
The Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Setyo Budiyanto, has spoken regarding the possibility of questioning the Regent of Bogor, Rudy Susmanto, in relation to a case currently being handled by the anti-corruption agency.
Setyo stated that the summoning of individuals during the investigation process is conducted in stages. At present, investigators are still summoning several parties deemed to have a direct connection to the case.
“Summoning certainly has its stages; there is a process. Currently, those being summoned are the parties most directly involved,” Setyo said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (1/9).
Setyo added that the decision regarding whether or not to summon the Bogor Regent, as well as the timing of the examination, remains within the authority of the investigators.
“Whether they will be summoned later, or whether it will be after other parties have been summoned, and so on, is the duty of the investigators to ensure the necessity and the timing. This will certainly be communicated when the person concerned is summoned,” he said.
Some time ago, the KPK issued a general Investigation Order (Sprindik) for this case in Bogor Regency. This means that suspects will be sought and identified during the ongoing investigation process.
“The KPK has not yet named any suspects because we are still using a general Investigation Order. Therefore, we cannot yet disclose identities or other parties in detail, including the construction of the case,” said the Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, at the Red and White Building in Jakarta on Saturday (22/8).
Taufik requested that the public refrain from speculating or concluding that certain parties have committed a crime before the legal process is complete and the KPK officially releases information.
“In due course, the KPK will communicate the progress of this case transparently to the public in accordance with regulations and investigative needs, should it be necessary to disclose it to the media,” he said.
According to information from internal KPK sources obtained by CNNIndonesia.com, activities conducted in the Bogor Regency area on Thursday (20/8) were part of a Sting Operation (OTT).
However, this was denied by KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, who stated that there were “activities to request information following up on community reports.”
Several heads of regional departments were reportedly caught in the silent operation, and some underwent questioning at the KPK’s Red and White Building.
The KPK also found and secured approximately Rp1.5 billion in cash during the operation in Bogor Regency.
The operation is alleged to have targeted the Regent of Bogor, Rudy Susmanto, who is also an elite member of the Gerindra Party.
