KPK Can Take Over Febrie Adriansyah Case, Here Are the Conditions
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has acknowledged a mechanism exists to take over the handling of the case ensnaring former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. The KPK stated that a takeover can be carried out if the police investigation encounters obstacles.
KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu revealed there has been no discussion of a joint investigation with the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) in handling the case involving Febrie Adriansyah. However, he noted this can be done by referring to Article 10A paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK.
“If, for example, the case stalls, as mentioned earlier. The case stalls, going back and forth,” Asep told reporters on Saturday (11/7/2026).
For the time being, Asep admitted the KPK does not yet have a strong basis to take over the case from the Police’s Kortastipidkor. A takeover can only be carried out after completing the stages of communication, coordination, and supervision in accordance with the KPK Law.
“Currently the process is still ongoing, coercive measures are still underway, searches are still ongoing. So we cannot carry out a takeover based solely on suspicion or assumptions,” said Asep.
Asep stressed that a case takeover cannot be carried out suddenly by the KPK. He stated the KPK must comply with regulations by respecting the authority of the Police’s Kortastipidkor.
“We cannot carry out a takeover based only on thoughts or mere suspicions that it will stall, it is not like that,” Asep said.
Therefore, Asep urged all parties to respect the ongoing legal process. He expressed his desire to avoid wild assumptions about conflicts of interest between law enforcement agencies.
“We must respect all efforts made by law enforcement officers. We believe police investigators and prosecutors will act professionally,” said Asep.
It is known that the police have named two individuals as suspects in a corruption and money laundering (TPPU) investigation following searches conducted this week. The two suspects have the initials BR and FA, which refers to Febrie Adriansyah, the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) who resigned in the early hours of Saturday (11/7/2026).
A joint police investigative team named the two suspects in connection with corruption and money laundering related to coal procurement, Asabri, Jiwasraya, and Krakatau Steel (KS).
In the current handling of the case by the police, a joint team from the Polda Metro Jaya Special Criminal Investigation Directorate and Kortas Tipidkor has examined 15 witnesses. However, it was not mentioned whether FA has been examined.
A series of searches have also been conducted since Wednesday (8/7/2027) at 12 separate locations in Jakarta and in Bogor, West Java (Jabar). From these searches, the police investigative team seized cash totalling Rp 541 billion and 74 kg of gold bullion.
