KPK Calls Decision to Cancel East Kalimantan Governor's Rp 8.49 Billion Range Rover Official Vehicle a Positive Response

East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud has cancelled plans to use a new Range Rover 3.0 LBW official vehicle valued at Rp 8.49 billion. The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) views this decision as a positive response.

“With this cancellation, it represents a positive response. It means the person involved is listening to the voice of the people, listening to suggestions and input from various parties that have been conveyed, both directly and in public forums,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Budi noted that the return of the official vehicle was not separate from the active role of the public in monitoring government operations. He stressed that public participation is crucial in overseeing every procurement process for goods and services within the government.

“This certainly becomes one of the public’s contributions to monitoring and overseeing how government processes work, including in the context of procurement of goods and services,” he said.

Furthermore, Budi reminded every regional head that procurement of goods must be based on careful planning and the principle of necessity. The KPK emphasised that the government should reconsider the urgency of every operational expense.

“It must be truly planned in accordance with needs, then how is it implemented, how is it used. When we purchase official vehicles or operational vehicles, we must also consider whether there were already any available previously, or whether existing ones could still be utilised,” he explained.

The KPK requested that every agency, both at central and regional levels, always prioritise scale in using state budget. That budget should be used for urgent matters.

“And of course in the context of state spending, both central and regional governments also have a scale of priorities, so it is also important to consider what is appropriate or what needs to be spent urgently,” he concluded.

The procurement of the East Kalimantan Governor’s official vehicle in the 2025 Amended Budget drew considerable attention. The East Kalimantan Provincial Government, through the General Bureau of the Regional Secretariat, procured one four-wheeled vehicle for operational needs of the leadership valued at Rp 8,499,936,000 through 2025 Amended Budget funds.

It was previously reported that the procurement of the East Kalimantan Governor’s official vehicle by the East Kalimantan Provincial Government worth Rp 8.5 billion was cancelled. This was communicated through a voice message from Governor Rudy Mas’ud posted on his personal Instagram account @h.rudymasud and the official East Kalimantan Provincial Government Instagram @pemprov_kaltim.

“Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh, we wish to convey that the East Kalimantan Provincial Government has decided to cancel the Governor’s official vehicle that was previously planned,” said Rudy, quoted on detikKalimantan on Monday, 2 March 2026.
