KPK Auctions Seized Assets: Two Oppo Smartphones Listed at Rp73,000 Sell for Rp59 Million
Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) has conducted an auction of assets seized from corruption offences. One item that attracted public attention was two Oppo brand mobile phones auctioned with a reserve price of Rp73,000.
However, according to the @lelangkpkofficial Instagram account, the two red and black handsets sold for Rp59,723,000.
Mungki Hadipratikto, Director of KPK’s Asset Tracking, Evidence Management, and Execution Division (Labuksi), explained that the items attracted public attention because they were sold at a low price. He acknowledged an anomaly because the goods sold for tens of millions of rupiah.
“What attracted people to buy the Oppo phones was obviously the price, because it is quite cheap for two handsets,” said Mungki when contacted via written message on Monday, 16 March.
“There is indeed an anomaly regarding the high value of the auction winner,” he added.
Mungki explained that such anomalies have occurred in previous auctions. Some time ago, a silk batik shirt with a reserve value of Rp5,000 sold for Rp5,000,000.
However, the auction winner subsequently failed to settle the payment. As a result, the auction winner was disqualified and the silk batik shirt was re-auctioned.
“So it was re-auctioned and eventually sold for Rp2.5 million at the next auction and paid by the winning bidder,” said Mungki.
Regarding the winner of the auction for the two handphones valued at Rp59 million, Mungki stated that the auction winner has also not yet made payment.
He explained that the payment deadline is five working days after being declared the auction winner, which would be 18 March 2026. However, as this falls on a national holiday, the payment deadline has been extended to 25 March 2026.
“We are still waiting until the final payment deadline for the auction costs. We continue to hope that the auction winner commits to settling the auction costs,” said Mungki.
“If not paid, the auction winner will be considered in breach of contract, which means the guarantee money that has been deposited will be forfeited and transferred to the state treasury. Then we will auction the goods at the next auction opportunity,” he concluded.
In addition to the handphones, KPK successfully auctioned a Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix vehicle, a 2019 Honda Beat motorcycle, a Honda CRV Type E CVT vehicle, an iPhone XS Max 256 GB, a Tag Heuer watch, a Patrol bicycle and Tumi bag, one plot of land in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, and one apartment unit in Tebet, South Jakarta.
