KPK Arrests West Lombok Regent in Sting Operation Over Project Kickbacks

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that the sting operation which ensnared West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini is linked to the receipt of kickbacks. “This case is suspected to involve receipts by the regent related to projects within the West Lombok Regency administration,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo on Monday, 20 July 2026. Budi disclosed that in addition to securing several parties, the KPK also confiscated evidence in the form of cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah and several documents. “As of now, the cash secured amounts to hundreds of millions of rupiah, along with other related documents. This will certainly continue to be investigated further in this initial examination,” he stated. Budi noted that the KPK’s silent operation resulted in the detention of 19 people, comprising State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and private sector individuals. The evidence and the detained individuals will subsequently undergo further examination. “The parties detained include individuals from the West Lombok Regency Government and several from the private sector,” Budi explained. Previously, the KPK had detained 19 people as a result of the sting operation conducted in West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Seven of them were transported to Jakarta. “A total of 19 people were secured, seven of whom will be brought to the KPK’s Merah Putih building tonight for further examination,” said Budi. He stated that among all those detained, one is the Regent of West Lombok. The seven individuals were scheduled to arrive in Jakarta at approximately 21.00 WIB tonight. “Among those detained is the Regent of West Lombok,” he concluded.
