KPK Arrests West Lombok Regent in Sting Operation
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation on Monday (20/7/2026), arresting West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini. KPK Deputy Chairperson Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed the arrest in Jakarta. “Correct,” Fitroh stated.
The arrest of Lalu Ahmad Zaini marks the 17th sting operation carried out by the KPK so far in 2026. In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of the parties arrested in the operation.
Earlier, the Regent’s office within the West Lombok Regency Government administrative centre was sealed by KPK investigators on Monday morning local time. West Lombok Regency Secretary Akhmad Saikhu in Gerung, West Lombok, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, when we arrived at the office in the morning, the situation was already like that (sealed with the KPK emblem),” he said. Akhmad acknowledged that the Regent and other West Lombok Regency officials had previously participated in a public viewing event for the 2026 World Cup final in the office courtyard in the early hours of Monday until dawn.
“After watching, we all went home, and when we returned to the office in the morning, the situation was already like this. We were shocked,” Akhmad stated. He admitted to trying to contact the West Lombok Regent through his aide. However, he confirmed that the Regent’s telephone contact number was no longer active. “We tried to contact him, but it was no longer active,” Akhmad said.
