KPK Arrests Unsoed Rector in Sting Operation over Alleged Bribery in New Student Admissions

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has carried out a sting operation (OTT) in the Purwokerto area of Central Java. Among those detained was the Rector of Universitas Soedirman (Unsoed), Akhmad Sodiq.

“It is true that the KPK conducted a covert investigation in the Purwokerto area of Central Java. One of the parties detained was the Rector of Unsoed,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters on Friday (21/8/2026).

Budi explained that the sting operation was related to alleged payments received by the Unsoed Rector in connection with the new student admissions process. The KPK also seized hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash during the operation.

“This covert investigation relates to alleged receipt of payments by a state official in the new student admissions process,” Budi stated.

“The evidence secured includes cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah,” he continued.

He also said that a total of 14 people were initially detained by the KPK in this operation — 12 in Purwokerto and two in Jakarta.

However, after 12 people underwent examination at the Banyumas Police Headquarters, only seven were taken to Jakarta. This brings the total number currently undergoing examination to nine people.

The detained parties remain under examination. The KPK has 1 x 24 hours to announce the status of those caught in the sting operation.
