KPK Arrests Total of 16 People in Connection with Raid on Tulungagung Regent
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested a total of 16 people in the hand-catching operation (OTT) against Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo. “The team secured a number of 16 people, one of whom is the Tulungagung Regent,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Friday (10/4). Budi explained that the KPK enforcement team conducted covert investigation activities in the East Java region. However, he has not detailed the case involving Gatut. “The team is still in the field at the moment. We will continue to update on the developments.” There is no detailed explanation yet regarding this OTT, such as the alleged corruption case, evidence items, or who else was arrested. KPK has 1x24 hours to determine the fate of the arrested parties in the OTT. Gatut was elected as Tulungagung Regent in the 2024 Regional Elections. He was previously a PDIP cadre but left and joined the Gerindra Party before the election. Gatut previously served as Deputy Regent of Tulungagung from 2019-2023. He is also known as a building materials shop entrepreneur. Previously, KPK has also arrested several regional heads at the beginning of this year. Some of the arrested regional heads come from East Java, such as the Ponorogo Regent and the Madiun Mayor.
