KPK Arrests Seven in Langkat Sting Operation, Including Regent
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradasting Commission (KPK) has arrested seven people across three regions in North Sumatra Province in connection with a sting operation (OTT) involving the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim.
“Seven individuals secured during this sting operation were apprehended in the Langkat, Binjai, and Medan areas,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday.
Budi further explained that the seven individuals consist of Ondim, a civil servant (ASN) in Langkat, and five private sector representatives.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested in the sting operation.
Previously, the KPK conducted its first sting operation of 2026, arresting eight people between 9–10 January. This operation concerned alleged bribery during tax inspections at the North Jakarta Medium Tax Office under the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance, for the 2021–2026 period.
In the same month, the KPK conducted its second sting operation, arresting the Mayor of Madiun, Maidi, and its third operation, arresting the Regent of Pati, Sudewo.
In February 2026, the KPK carried out its fourth sting operation, arresting the Head of the Banjarmasin Medium Tax Office in South Kalimantan.
During the same month, the KPK also arrested Rizal, the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Finance, who is currently serving as the Head of the West Sumatra Regional Customs Office, in its fifth sting operation.
Additionally, the KPK arrested the Chairperson of the Depok District Court, I Wayan Eka Mariarta, and the Deputy Chairperson of the Depok District Court, Bambang Setyawan, in its sixth sting operation.
During March 2026, coinciding with Ramadan, the KPK arrested the Regent of Pekalongan, Fadia Arafiq, the Regent of Rejang Lebong, Muhammad Fikri Thobari, and the Regent of Cilacap, Syamsul Auliya Rachman, each in separate sting operations.
In April 2026, the KPK arrested the Regent of Tulungagung, Gatut Sunu Wibowo, in its tenth sting operation. However, no KPK sting operations were recorded throughout May 2026.
In June 2026, the KPK conducted another operation that led to the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, surrendering himself.
Subsequently, the KPK arrested the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, in its twelfth sting operation, and arrested a civil servant from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK RI) in its thirteenth operation as a follow-up to a previous sting. Furthermore, the KPK conducted its fourteenth sting operation, which resulted in the Regent of Kuantan Singingi, Suhardim Amby, surrendering himself.
In the first week of July 2026, the KPK confirmed the arrest of the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim.
