KPK Arrests Muara Enim Regent in South Sumatra, Scheduled for Transfer to Jakarta on Tuesday
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, in the South Sumatra region, with plans to transport him to Jakarta on Tuesday (9/6).
“The plan is for tomorrow (Tuesday, 9/6),” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Monday. Consequently, Budi noted that the KPK did not plan to fly Edison to Jakarta on Monday (8/6) evening. “There are currently no plans to bring the Regent to the KPK Merah Putih Building. We will provide further updates later,” he added.
Meanwhile, he stated that the KPK is currently examining ten parties detained in connection with the sting operation (OTT) across Jakarta and South Sumatra. “Some are undergoing intensive examination during the investigation stage at the South Sumatra Regional Police, while others have already been secured at the K4 building (KPK Merah Putih Building, Jakarta),” he said.
Previously, the KPK announced the arrest of ten individuals in the South Sumatra sting operation, consisting of five members of the Muara Enim Regency Government and five private sector parties. The KPK also confirmed that one of the ten individuals arrested is the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those detained during the sting operation. This operation marks the 12th sting operation conducted by the KPK during 2026.
