KPK Arrests Langkat Regent at Private Residence, Not at APKASI Event

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has explained that the arrest of Langkat Regent Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim, was carried out at his private residence, not during an event of the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (APKASI). “What is certain is that the Regent was secured at his private home located in the Medan area, North Sumatra,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Friday. Budi also confirmed that the KPK has sealed a number of locations for the purposes of investigating the case. The case is currently still in the inquiry phase. “For the needs of the legal process, the team has of course placed a KPK line, sealing several location points so that when it is later decided to elevate the case to an investigation, there will be search activities,” he said. He stated that the searches would be conducted to strengthen the evidence in handling the alleged corruption case. Previously, on 3 July 2026, the KPK confirmed it had conducted a sting operation against Langkat Regent Syah Afandin. On the same date, the KPK announced the arrest of the Langkat Regent along with six other individuals in a series of operations in Langkat, Binjai, and Medan, North Sumatra. The six other individuals consist of a civil servant in Langkat and five private sector parties. The KPK has 1x24 hours to determine the status of the parties arrested in the sting operation in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code.
